2. HEALTH HAZARD INFORMATION

2.1 Health Effects - Acute

Swallowed

None known.

Eye

Dust may cause irritation by mechanical abrasion. Fumes from decomposition at high temperatures may cause redness, tearing and discomfort.

Skin

Prolonged and repeated contact may cause skin irritation.

Inhaled

None known from dust. Fumes from decomposition at high temperatures may cause breathing discomfort, coughing and sore throat.

2.2 Health Effects - Chronic

Rosin has been reported to cause allergic skin reaction (sensitisation) in susceptible individuals under certain non-industrial exposure conditions of repeated and prolonged skin contact. Individuals sensitised to rosin may also react to this product after skin contact.

2.3 First Aid

Swallowed

If swallowed drink large quantities of water. DO NOT induce vomiting. Seek medical assistance.

Eye

In case of contact, immediately flush with plenty of low pressure water for at least 15 minutes. Remove contact lenses, if worn, to ensure thorough flushing. Seek medical assistance.

Skin

Promptly wash with soap and running water. If molten material comes in contact with skin, cool under running stream of water. DO NOT attempt to remove the resin from the skin. Removal could result in severe tissue damage. Seek medical assistance. Remove contaminated clothing. Wash clothing before reuse.

Inhaled

Remove to fresh air. Treat any irritation symptomatically. Seek medical assistance if symptoms persist.

First Aid Facilities

Ensure an eye bath and safety shower are available and ready for use.

2.5 Advice to Doctor

Material should not be forcibly pulled from the skin. Mineral oil may be used to loosen the material.

2.6 Toxicity Data

Oral LD50 = not available Dermal LD50 = not available Inhalation LC50 = not available This product is NOT listed as a carcinogen by the National Toxicology Programme (NTP). It is not regulated as a carcinogen by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and has not been evaluated by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).

3. PRECAUTIONS FOR USE

3.1 Exposure Standards

If used in a manner that could generate particulates (dust) it is recommended that the resin be treated as a nuisance particulate according to ACGIH.

3.2 Engineering Controls

Adequate ventilation should be provided to keep dust concentrations below acceptable limits. Discharge from ventilation should comply with applicable air pollution control regulations.

3.3 Personal Protection

Wear safety glasses, impervious gloves, appropriate respiratory protection (respirators suitable for airborne dusts) is required when exposure to airborne contaminant is likely to exceed acceptable limits. Wear other protective clothing to minimise contact with the material (ie. industrial overalls etc.) Wash hands and face thoroughly after handling and before work breaks, eating, drinking, smoking or using toilet facilities.

3.4 Flammability

Product is non-flammable according to the n Code for the Transport of Dangerous Goods. However, resin will burn in a general fire.

SAFE HANDLING INFORMATION

4.1 Storage / Transport

Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area. When finely divided, product is prone to gradual oxidation. Control inventory. Use oldest material first. WARNING! Static charges generated by emptying rosin in finely divided form in or near flammable vapours may cause flash fire. May form flammable dust-air mixtures. Avoid ignition sources such as sparks and flame. Ground all equipment.

4.3 Spills and Disposal

Spills

Clean-up personnel should wear full protective clothing including breathing apparatus in dusty conditions.

Scoop into clean, dry, steel containers with tight fitting lids for use or disposal.

Disposal

Incinerate in suitable furnace, or bury in approved landfill. Disposal must be in accordance with local, state and federal regulations.

4.4 FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARD

Fire / Explosion

Resin burns creating smoke. Material is stable under normal conditions of temperature and pressure. No incompatible materials identified. Hazardous polymerisation has not been reported. Hazardous decomposition/combustion products include carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and smoke.

Extinguishing Media

Fire-fighters should wear full protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus. In case of fire use water spray, dry chemical, foam or carbon dioxide type extinguishers.
